AMG HAS THE HIGHEST GUIDE-TO-CLIMBER RATIO
Safety is our Number One Priority
AMG has an excellent safety record. When making decisions or organizing expeditions, safety is our primary focus. All staff and guides take part in risk management and emergency response programs to ensure that each expedition and trek provides climbers with a high level of safety and rewarding experiences. All AMG guides are medically trained and carry first-aid kits to handle situations that may arise on the mountain (this is important not just for emergencies, but for making decisions that will help clients acclimatize more thoroughly and stay healthier). All teams have emergency oxygen — including when climbing between camps. All guides carry VHF radios to communicate with other guides and base camps, giving them the ability to get weather forecasts, request additional porters or assistance in case of necessity.
More Guides on Summit Day
Summit day on Aconcagua is by far the most strenuous and longest day of the climb with 3000ft of elevation gain and climbing to an altitude of almost 23,000 ft. If a team member needs to descend before reaching the summit, a guide must descend with them and stay in high camp. If multiple climbers need to descend at different times, it can require the entire team to turn around due to lack of guides.
This is the number one reason strong climbers may not reach the summit!

AMG adds additional guides for summit day if group dynamics require it.
AMG has a large staff of assistant guides in base camp that can be in High Camps the day before the summit attempt to assist on summit day.
AMG’s launches two trips at the same time, one from Vacas Valley and the other from the Normal Route.
They climb different routes but meet at high camp on the same day. The following day they summit together adding twice as many guides.
Not one climber was turned around on summit day in the last three years due to insufficient guide numbers.
AMG’S Expert Guides
Experienced guides who work well with climbers are essential for reaching the summit as well as an enjoyable experience. AMG lead guides have all guided Aconcagua a minimum of 20 expeditions with some leading over 60 in their career. They have trained extensively with AMG and understand all the needs of climbers. Porter Assistance on Normal and Polish Route
At no additional cost, AMG porters move all group gear up and down the mountain to all altitude camps on the Normal Route. This includes food, cooking equipment, fuel, tents, trash, and human waste. You only carry your personal gear. Porters are also available for hire to carry your personal gear as well.
On the Polish 360 Route, porters can be hired to carry loads for both personal and group gear for members. All human waste is carried down by porters.
Itineraries with Adequate Acclimatization Days
Our Normal Route expedition is a carefully designed 19-day round-trip program from Mendoza, while our unique Polish Traverse 360° expedition is completed over 20 days. Both itineraries include two contingency days for bad weather, while still providing the time needed for gradual acclimatization.
This balanced approach significantly increases the chances of a successful summit while prioritizing safety. The contingency days also provide the flexibility to adapt to weather conditions without compromising the acclimatization schedule. This is a prime example of how we put safety and quality first.
Many shorter itineraries move too quickly up the mountain, increasing the risk of altitude-related illness or forcing teams to turn back because they run out of time. By allowing for proper acclimatization and weather flexibility, our itineraries maximize the likelihood of reaching the summit safely. If the expedition finishes on schedule or ahead of schedule, you’ll still have time to enjoy the beautiful city of Mendoza, explore its renowned wine country, or simply head home at your own pace.
ALL OUR GUIDES CARRY OXYGEN FOR SUMMIT DAY
All Guides carry oxygen bottles, regulators and masks for safety on summit day.
All our teams are equipped with Everest oxygen systems for additional safety in case of altitude illness or hypothermia. Many climbers choose to use oxygen while summiting to feel stronger or gain experience in using oxygen on the Himalayan Peaks. During our 24/25 season, 100% of all climbers who used oxygen reached the summit.
TOP-TIER TENTS AT ALL CAMPS
AMG is the ONLY company with sleeping domes and dining tents at all High Altitude Camps.
AMG’s dome tents have greatly improved comfort for climbers.
After climbing for several hours, sometimes in wind and snow conditions, it takes tremendous effort to stay warm and set up a campsite. As you walk into our 5-meter domes, you’re immediately out of the storm and can unpack and rest in comfort. Our domes are insulated and have 3-inch foam floors, which make an excellent pad to sleep on. Dinner will follow in the dining/cook tent before heading to bed. The next morning, you wake up at 3 am, put on your gear inside the dome, have breakfast, and head towards the summit.

We own the only ranch near the entrance of the park with 170 mules and horses to move supplies to the Base Camps.
Situated at the entrance of the park, our ranch is uniquely positioned to serve as the critical gateway for all logistical operations. With a dedicated team of Arrieros along with 170 well-trained mules and horses, we ensure that essential supplies are transported reliably to the Base Camps. Our animals, known for their resilience and sure-footedness, work in unison with our experienced handlers to navigate rugged landscapes, maintaining a steady flow of materials needed for operations. Helicopter Service
We work directly with the only helicopter service on the mountain. We are able to call them anytime for assistance or to make arrangements for people who would rather fly down from Base Camps instead of hiking out. Many of our clients charter helicopter tours around the mountain. There are incredible views and excellent photo opportunities from the air.
Starlink Internet in every camp for communications.
All camps on the mountain, including High Camps, have continuous service with Starlink for your use. Our guides also carry Garmin Inreaches and VHF radios. The aim is to be permanently connected with the headquarters in Mendoza city and with all our expeditions on the mountain. This allows us to facilitate those coming off the mountain, whether scheduled or unscheduled on time. Should an emergency occur, we are in close contact with Rangers and the helicopter service to move climbers efficiently off the mountain.

AMG holds itself to the highest standards of environmental practices. We support the Provincial Park’s mission to preserve natural resources. Some of our commitments to this endeavour include:
Employing porters to remove all human waste from the mountain and then AMG mules carrying it out of the park for disposal.

The Aconcagua Mountain Guides Foundation is committed to supporting local communities and promoting education by providing essential school books for children of all ages. In many rural areas, schools lack the funding to supply educational materials, placing the burden on families. We step in to support children whose parents are unable to afford these costs. In addition, we offer opportunities for local youth to experience the mountains firsthand, introducing them to the wonders of the wilderness.
