Rooted in Aconcagua: The Real Meaning of Being Local
We are proud of our company, and it shows in everything we do. One of the things we enjoy most with our passengers is taking them through our logistics depot during the season. It may sound unremarkable. It is not.
This tour is the most direct way to understand the scale of an operation that moves literal tons of supplies and equipment over four months, while coordinating more than one hundred people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the entire climbing season.
Without seeing it, it is difficult to grasp the added value behind a Mendoza-based company organizing expeditions to Aconcagua. We want our passengers to see the faces and the structure behind the scenes. It takes a small army to make that final moment happen when someone uncorks a bottle of champagne at the end of an expedition.
Does Being a Local Company Matter?
Before getting into operations, it is worth going back to the core question: Does being a local company matter? For us, it does.
A company of our size operates with multiple teams, from the city to high camps on Aconcagua. Each team has a defined role, but they also represent what the company stands for. The result you see on the mountain is the outcome of many small, precise contributions working together.
Local companies are tied to a broader and more complex community than what an expedition alone reveals. That connection is part of the service itself.
What Being Local Looks Like in Practice
Take something as simple as a bottle of wine shared after a summit. It starts with a local winery and the entire chain behind it. Then a team in Mendoza selects it, packs it, and moves it to our logistics base in Los Puquios. Muleteers transport it to base camp. Staff there receive it, unpack it, recycle the materials, and serve it to the climbers.
This process repeats itself with everything we bring to the mountain.
Being local also means knowing details that are easy to overlook. The seamstress who prepares our kitchen team’s uniforms already has every size before the season begins. The result is a set of handcrafted garments, ready before the first expedition arrives.
Aconcagua Mountain Guides as a Local Company in Mendoza
Aconcagua Mountain Guides was founded in Mendoza by local professionals and continues to be run by people from this community.
Each season, the company generates work for around 130 people. This includes guides, porters, muleteers, packers, and teams across base camps, Los Puquios logistics, transportation, administration, sales, and customer service.
We care about what we do, and we take it seriously. Every expedition is an opportunity to deliver a high standard in a short and often intense season.
This is what being a local company means in practice.
